Issue 33 of Your Kent Wedding Magazine
I met my best friend, who is male, at university 10 years ago and really want him to be my ‘bridesman’. However, I realise this conjures up many problems, from the hen do to the traditional etiquette of the day. How can I get around the problems of having a man as my chief bridesmaid?
Having a male best friend as your Chief Bridesmaid can work very well, for one you have a male opinion you trust amongst a normally female close group.
A Chief Bridesmaid is normally the person who acts as your sounding board and your main support and also liaises with the Bestman and other member of the Bridal Party during the planning and on the day so he would be perfect as he is your best friend.
Remember he may not want to come shopping for the dresses with you and I think you should forgive him for that but shop with him for a beautiful suit and a shirt & tie that works with the colour of your bridesmaids dresses, and a buttonhole to match their bouquets and of course you should invite him to look for a wedding dress with you.
Don’t worry about the Hen Do let him organise it for you after all he has know you for years and he will know what you consider to be a great night out & your other bridesmaids will be only to happy to help him.
You may not be able to get you into your dress on the morning of your wedding but you can make him responsible for the bucks fizz! Have him walk down the aisle with one of your bridesmaids on his arm (or one on each arm), he can still take your bouquet from you and have your lip gloss in his pockets
Your Kent Wedding Issue 32 September/October 2010
My mum really wants to help organise our wedding day. Obviously I love her dearly, but she can be a little overbearing at times. I want to include her, so what is the best task to give her free rein on?
One of the most time consuming tasks when organising your wedding is the Invitations. So once you have decided on your Guest List and had the invitations produced this is the time to ask mum to take charge. You would be surprised how long it takes to put the invitations together, labels & stamps on and pop in the post and then await the RSVP’s. Collating together the returning RSVP’s & dietary requirement information and then chasing up the late responders – it’s a perfect task for a mum who likes to have some responsibility. Including mum in the table plan decisions will help to make her feel included but remember it your wedding so that last say should be yours.
Remember most mum’s just wanted to feel included in the their daughters big day, little things like showing her pictures of choices you have made, taking her to see your chosen venue as a special visit, and especially to see you wedding dress (even if you do the original search with your girlfriends) will make her feel apart of your plans. If your budget can afford it go for a ‘pre wedding spa day’ as a treat for all her support.
A Kentish Wedding Magazine Autumn 2010
What are popular flowers for autumn brides and describe some unusual floral ideas?
A real favourite with brides in autumn are the end of season hydrangeas with their wonderful rustic greens, purples & burgundy and also their mixed tones of all three colours. Not only are they beautiful in colour but their big heads are perfect for wow displays and also good on your budget because they go a long way.
They look stunning in a terracotta or antique gold containers or even in a contemporary clear glass bowl and will give the perfect autumnal look to any wedding reception table. You can also mix them with blousy avalanche roses and it’s the perfect time of year to add apples, pears and berries either la natural or sprayed in deep gold’s to displays.
